Day 16: Attraction

Beyond  the Law of Attraction

The law of attraction is a new age principle based on old world mystical understanding. The premise is that thought is not just imaginary concepts floating in the ether, but are actual frequencies which create magnetic fields.  Just like physical magnetic fields, thought fields influence everything around them.  It has been proven scientifically through many studies by independent groups and laboratories that coherent thought can affect external objects such as water molecules, the EEG readings of plants, and random number generators. (The Hidden Messages in Water, The Secret Life of Plants, The Field)

The law of attraction states that by focusing on a coherent thought of what it is specifically that one wants, a similar vibration can be drawn into one’s life, which is typically referred to as manifesting one’s desires.  Whether this concept is true or not in physical reality is not important.  What is important is the difference in quality of life reported by those who practice this perception on a regular basis.  Whether or not their lives have been altered physically or materially, they tend to be happier, more fulfilled and more connected than before they shifted their perception from scarcity to abundance.

But, the law of attraction is only a tool for attracting or achieving what one desires, it does not offer techniques for discovering what it is that lies beneath desire. It will not teach one where desire comes from, or that desire is a bottomless pit that cannot be filled with any amount of objects or achievements.  Furthermore, it encourages people to focus on external things and achievements which supposedly will finally grant one “happiness” or “prosperity”.  Cars, boats, jobs, money, etc. tend to be the focus of most practicioners concerns.

What the law of attraction will not teach you is that in truth, it isn’t the car or the job or the money that we really desire.  What we desire is the experience of the object or achievement, we desire the feeling the car or job gives us.  Think about this for a moment.  A car is just a vehicle, a way to get from here to there. Why do you believe a different car will make you happier?  Because you will feel different driving it right?  Where does this feeling come from?  Inside of you.  The car or job or whatever doesn’t give you the feeling, you do.  The object or achievement simply gives you an excuse to allow yourself to create that specific feeling of esteem, or value, or superiority, or whatever it is you feel you are missing.

Exercise:

Right now, close your eyes and recall something that you desire deeply.  It can be anything from an object, to a person, to an experience.  Allow your mind to visualize this experience as viscerally as possible.  See yourself using the object or with the person or receiving the recognition.  Visualize the most complete experience of your desire possible and let the feelings of it wash over you and envelop you.  Smell the leather, taste the ocean, feel the breeze and accept all the sensations which come with it.  Allow the sensations to fill your body until you become the experience, there is only the experience.  Now bask in the fullness of your creation.  Whenever you are ready, open your eyes and notice how you feel.

Notice what has happened to your desire, can you find it, does it feel any different?  Is there anything you believe you could experience from the actual object that you didn’t experience just now?  If so, do the process again with that desire.

Assignment:

In the comments section below, tell me about your experience with desire. Were you able to locate a specific desire easily?  Did you allow yourself to really experience the sensation of having it?  How did your desire feel after completing this process? What did you learn?

The choice is yours, you can focus your desires on the future and wait for objects or achievements to give you certain feelings, or you can go inside and allow yourself to experience those same feelings right now, in this moment. Either way, I will meet you on the other side.

Love,

SaTek

This was a wonderful feeling. The thing I focused on is the sensations of what it will feel like when we pay off our house loan. What a feeling of freedom and lightness. This desire was quite easy to locate. I learned that once we complete this amazing task of paying our home off in under 8 years (we are less than two years away from this insane goal) we will have the most fabulous party with our friends.

    Namaste,
    Your insane Body Juggler
